People always ask Allen, where do you get your ideas for writing and I always tell them to look at your own life. I was born dirt poor, was kidnapped as a baby, and I started life out at a run. I changed schools 24 times in twelve years. By the time I was nineteen I had lived in10 different states, and had 3 dads and 3 father figures. I had lived with other families, bikers and grandparents. I was the oldest of three kids and had a single mom who let the love of her life beat me every time he had a chance until he died when I was sixteen.

I discovered fantasy at an early age as a means to escape reality and started with Edgar Rice Burroughs and went on to Terry Brooks, Margaret Weiss, Tracy Hickman, Raymond Fiest, and David Eddings to name a few. I was allowed my freedom at the age of sixteen sort of and through all of that I still managed to graduate high school. I started stuying martial arts at this same time first with Tae Kwon do, went on to Boxing, Jeet Kune Do and then Silat and finally Hapkido. Martial arts gave me a sense of self discipline that I needed in my life. At age 19 I joined the Army, became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in Ft Bragg N.C. and in Italy.

While I was overseas I saw several other countries including Rome, Paris and Berlin where I watched the fall of the wall. I became a truck driver and driver trainer and have traveled to 49 of 50 states and have lived on three continents. I have been a bouncer at one of the largest clubs in Florida and have lived in Key West and that is now where I consider home. I have had several loves in my life but the best love has been with my wife Karen and my two dogs and I have loved the life I have lived so far. I have always been an artist but never thought I was quite good enough and one night after reading a horrible book, I had a thought and wondered if i I could do better and draw the scenes I imagined with words so I decided to try. My first efforts were horrible.

I lost my manuscript to A King's Quest five times while writing it. Four times my fault and the fifth to a fire but I persisted and through the constant critism of several people I improved and learned how to write. I finally created The Kingdom Chronicles and brought to paper some of the thoughts in my head. In a time when war is prevelant I decided to defend my country again and I am now back in the Army having other adventures including a combat tour in Iraq in Baghdad.

When it comes to writing, there is always something you should be able to find to write about. And if you cant find that something, get out and live life a little and that will help.
